Mentorship at YPHS

Experience that opens doors.

Mentorship at YPHS connects young people with adults who have walked a path worth sharing. Whether you are a young person looking for guidance — or an adult ready to offer it — this is where that connection begins.

What Mentorship Means at YPHS

More than advice. A real relationship.

Mentorship at YPHS is flexible and pathway-based. It may include professional conversations, group mentoring, short-term guidance, career or job exposure, trades mentorship, entrepreneurship mentorship, or longer-term one-to-one mentoring where appropriate.

That relationship might look like regular one-on-one conversations, guidance through a specific challenge, introductions to a professional network, or simply being a consistent and trusted presence in a young person's life. What it looks like depends on the young person, the mentor, and what the pathway calls for.

YPHS supports both individual mentorship and group mentorship opportunities. Not every young person automatically receives a mentor — mentorship connections are made based on pathway needs, availability and suitability.

Individual Matches

One-on-one relationships built around a young person's specific pathway and goals.

Group Opportunities

Panels, workshops, and events where mentors share experience with multiple young people.

Relationship-Centred

Mentorship at YPHS is built on trust, consistency, and genuine connection — not a checklist.

Pathway-Aligned

Matched to what a young person is actually working toward — not a generic program.

How It Works

Two ways mentorship happens at YPHS.

One-to-One Mentorship

A young person is matched with a mentor who has relevant experience and a genuine interest in supporting their pathway. The relationship is built around the young person's goals, challenges and direction.

Group Mentorship

Young people connect with multiple mentors in a shared setting — learning from different perspectives, building networks, and gaining exposure to a range of experiences and pathways.

Why Mentor

Why become a YPHS mentor?

Mentoring a young person is one of the most meaningful things you can do with your experience. Here is what YPHS mentors tell us matters most.

  • Make a real difference in a young person's life and trajectory.
  • Share the experience and knowledge you have worked hard to build.
  • Connect with a community of people committed to youth development.
  • Give back to the community in a meaningful and lasting way.
  • Help close the gap between potential and opportunity for young people.

Screening, Safeguarding & Suitability

Suitability, screening, orientation and safeguarding requirements may apply depending on the nature of the engagement. All prospective mentors will go through an appropriate YPHS screening and suitability process before participating in any mentoring activities. Submitting an Expression of Interest does not guarantee approval or a mentor match. Final requirements will be governed by approved YPHS safeguarding, screening and mentorship policies.
